Circle of Abstract Ritual (12 minutes time-lapse masterpiece)

This film took 300,000 photos, riots, wildfires, paintings in abandoned houses, two years and zero graphics to make. It changed my entire life.

Circle of Abstract Ritual began as an exploration of the idea that creation and destruction might be the same thing. The destruction end of that thought began in earnest when riots broke out in my neighborhood in Anaheim, California, 2012. I immediately climbed onto my landlord’s roof without asking and began recording the unfolding events. The news agencies I contacted had no idea what to do with time lapse footage of riots, which was okay with me because I had been thinking about recontextualizing news as art for some time. After that I got the bug. I chased down wildfires, walked down storm drains on the L.A. River and found abandoned houses where I could set up elaborate optical illusion paintings. The illusion part of the paintings are not an end in themselves in my work. They’re an intimation of things we can’t physically detect; a way to get an ever so slight edge on the unknowable. – Jeff Frost

KING 810 – Fat Around The Heart [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

The first time I’ve heard about this band was from Machine Head’s singer Robb Flynn. “Midwest Monsters” was the 5th in his “best metal albums 2013”  list. I was curious so I checked every band that I didn’t know from that top10 and King 810 was far the most impressive. After my research I found out that this band is basically a ghost. They only appeared on a very few articles and forums and all the comments about them were really, I mean REALLY negative. Violent gigs, broken bones, fights, guns, misbehaviour and no respect at all for anything. As good as the album is as dickheads the members are. But still, there was only a very few info about them, missing facebook page and even no official website. The only fact that I could find out back then is that they’re from Flint, the “murder town”, a very, VERY shitty place, one of the most dangerous cities in the States where you have to have a gun if you want to survive.  Continue reading »

Night Verses – Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

Night Verses - Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

Night Verses – Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

For me Night Verses were the best “newcomer”  (well, they formed in California, 2012) band last year, their debut album “Lift Your Existence” is definitely in my “top 5 metal albums in 2013” list. A perfect mixture of techy, smart (almost jazzy) rock-metal, angry metalcore and supermelodic and beautiful vocals, the rhythm section is completely mind-blowing and deep lyrics. If I had to describe them in one word, I’d say uniqe. Just what missing from the music scene nowadays.

If you don’t know them already, check out their first EP “Out of the Sky” and then the album “Lift Your Existence“.

But first of all, here’s the brand new music video for “Celestial Fires”:

STREAM: Neonlight – Sidus EP (2014)

Neonlight - Sidus EP cover

Neonlight – Sidus EP cover

* Neonlight have now released their first solo ep ‘Sidus’ for Black Sun Empire’s labelBlackout Music NL.

* Sidus follows up on their massive remixes of ‘Brainfreeze’ and ‘Mr. Cover Up’ on Blackout Music NL. Audio of ‘Sidus’ is available to check out on the Black Sun Empire soundcloud here

  1. Neonlight – Extrasolar
  2. Neonlight – Heavy Bettie
  3. Neonlight – Transit
  4. Neonlight – Kosmonaut
  5. Black Sun Empire & Eye-D – Brainfreeze (Neonlight VIP)

Following a stellar run of releases from NZ-based drum & bass acts State Of Mind and The Upbeats so far in 2014, both of which charted at #1 on Beatport’s DnB chart, Blackout have turned to sought-after German producer duo Neonlight to provide the label’s latest enthralling transmission. Having released a series of EPs through both Bad Taste and Berlin’s Trust In Music imprint over the last five years, Neonlight have garnered a reputation for their charging, full-blooded takes on drum & bass. Kicking off the year with an official remix of State of Mind’s lead album single ‘Mr. Cover Up’ already in the bag, their four-track ‘Sidus’ EP represents one of the summer’s most hotly-anticipated label debuts.

Opening with the explosive ‘Extrasolar’, a track that builds with an array of complex melodies and off kilter beats before landing as a fierce, up-tempo club banger, this is an EP sure to make a serious impression on fans and contemporaries alike. Both ‘Transit’ and the wonderfully titled ‘Heavy Bettie’ continue in a similar vain, although this time with rolling drum beat interjects and some notably quirky sampling, whilst on the dreamy, roots-inspired ‘Kosmonaut’, the duo demonstrate just how far their production talents stretch.

Scheduled for release on June 16th, the ‘Sidus’ EP represents a refreshingly original body of tracks that are consistent with Blackout’s ever-growing reputation for unearthing some of drum & bass’ most exciting talents. An engaging listen throughout, expect it to earmark Neonlight as ones to watch throughout the remainder of the year.
