The History of Rock – epic mega mash-up

History Of Rock

History of Rock from Ithaca Audio on Vimeo.

A History of Rock in 15 minutes.
348 rockstars, 84 guitarists, 64 songs, 44 drummers, 1 mashup.
Download audio version:

Thanks for the amazing response to the video in the last couple of days, it’s really blown us away.
Some people have also made some really good points about the diversity of the acts involved and raised questions about what’s been included vs what hasn’t etc. There are tons of hugely influential artists and sub-genres that we haven’t included in this and our main aim was to create a mashup that was foremost entertaining to watch, contain it to around 15mins, for it to primarily work well musically (and in the form of a Facebook feed) and have examples of the evolution of mainstream rock over the decades rather than create a kind of definitive documentary of rock. We really hope that comes across and you guys enjoy the video for what it is. It would have been great for us to start earlier on and explore more of the influence of the early pioneers before Elvis, which we picked mainly because musically it makes a great sounding intro with The Yardbirds. As you guys can probably tell, more hours than we’d like to think about now went into working out this giant musical jigsaw and getting it to work harmonically at the same time, but in hindsight we’d have loved to have tried to get some of the incredible women in rock to sit within the mix and feature a few videos rather than just noting their influence. Thanks for all the love so far and the interesting points that people are making too – it’s all great to hear.

Continue reading »

Circle of Abstract Ritual (12 minutes time-lapse masterpiece)

This film took 300,000 photos, riots, wildfires, paintings in abandoned houses, two years and zero graphics to make. It changed my entire life.

Circle of Abstract Ritual began as an exploration of the idea that creation and destruction might be the same thing. The destruction end of that thought began in earnest when riots broke out in my neighborhood in Anaheim, California, 2012. I immediately climbed onto my landlord’s roof without asking and began recording the unfolding events. The news agencies I contacted had no idea what to do with time lapse footage of riots, which was okay with me because I had been thinking about recontextualizing news as art for some time. After that I got the bug. I chased down wildfires, walked down storm drains on the L.A. River and found abandoned houses where I could set up elaborate optical illusion paintings. The illusion part of the paintings are not an end in themselves in my work. They’re an intimation of things we can’t physically detect; a way to get an ever so slight edge on the unknowable. – Jeff Frost

KING 810 – Fat Around The Heart [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

The first time I’ve heard about this band was from Machine Head’s singer Robb Flynn. “Midwest Monsters” was the 5th in his “best metal albums 2013”  list. I was curious so I checked every band that I didn’t know from that top10 and King 810 was far the most impressive. After my research I found out that this band is basically a ghost. They only appeared on a very few articles and forums and all the comments about them were really, I mean REALLY negative. Violent gigs, broken bones, fights, guns, misbehaviour and no respect at all for anything. As good as the album is as dickheads the members are. But still, there was only a very few info about them, missing facebook page and even no official website. The only fact that I could find out back then is that they’re from Flint, the “murder town”, a very, VERY shitty place, one of the most dangerous cities in the States where you have to have a gun if you want to survive.  Continue reading »

Night Verses – Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

Night Verses - Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

Night Verses – Celestial Fires [Official Music Video]

For me Night Verses were the best “newcomer”  (well, they formed in California, 2012) band last year, their debut album “Lift Your Existence” is definitely in my “top 5 metal albums in 2013” list. A perfect mixture of techy, smart (almost jazzy) rock-metal, angry metalcore and supermelodic and beautiful vocals, the rhythm section is completely mind-blowing and deep lyrics. If I had to describe them in one word, I’d say uniqe. Just what missing from the music scene nowadays.

If you don’t know them already, check out their first EP “Out of the Sky” and then the album “Lift Your Existence“.

But first of all, here’s the brand new music video for “Celestial Fires”:
